New Zealand’s men and women came into the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens as defending champions, and they will leave with their titles intact.
The Black Ferns saw off the USA 36-7 in an emphatic display of rugby, while the men were pushed much closer by France, winning 10-7 in front of a raucous Hong Kong Stadium.
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu was on hand to present the trophies, the last time they will be handed out at the sport’s spiritual home before the event moves to Kai Tak Sports Park in 2025.
Earlier, a packed out venue watched Hong Kong’s men beat Japan 22-10 to claim Melrose Claymore title, after the city’s women come up short against China.
